I'm sorry to say that the book you are holding in your hands is extremely unpleasant。 It tells an unhappy tale about three very unlucky children。 Even though they are charming and clever， the Baudelaire siblings lead lives filled with misery and woe。 From the very first page of this book when the children are at the beach and receive terrible news， continuing on through the entire story， disaster lurks at their heels。 One might say they are magnets for misfortune。
In this short book alone， the three youngsters encounter a greedy and repulsive villain， itchy clothing， a disastrous fire， a plot to steal their fortune， and cold porridge for breakfast。
It is my sad duty to write down these unpleasant tales， but there is nothing stopping you from putting this book down at once and reading something happy， if you prefer that sort of thing。

In this book the 3 baudelaire children's parents died in a horrible fireThey stay with a family member named Count olaf。 Count olaf tries to steal the Baudelaire fortune but fails。 The Baudelaire children try to find ways to stop Count olaf。 Thru books to their knowledge they have ended up stopping him。They also have a younger sister sunny that can chew thru things like rocks which also helped them。Count olaf's plan to steal the baudelaire fortune was to try to marry violet。To steel the fortune In this book the 3 baudelaire children's parents died in a horrible fireThey stay with a family member named Count olaf。 Count olaf tries to steal the Baudelaire fortune but fails。 The Baudelaire children try to find ways to stop Count olaf。 Thru books to their knowledge they have ended up stopping him。They also have a younger sister sunny that can chew thru things like rocks which also helped them。Count olaf's plan to steal the baudelaire fortune was to try to marry violet。To steel the fortune so he had possession over the baudelaires fortune。 But they stop him eventually。 After several tries。 And people not believing them。At the end they take him away but he comes back。。 I think its really cool how they can stop count olaf and take care of their little baby sister。 And also have the thoughts of their parents when they already died。 I Really liked this book。 It was for sure one of my favorites。 I would probably recommend this book to anyone that likes books with suspense or really anyone。 This is only the first book of this series and they have a lot more！ 。。。more

i'm cracking！ i've cracked！ it's time to read all the classic series i never read as a child because i thought i was different or something！ what was wrong with six year old me！3。5/5 starsi can see how this book would've really appealed to me as a younger child - it gives pseudonymous bosch vibes and i went HARD for the secret series （still do）but you know reading it now makes me realize how short/simple the story is and also makes me a little more annoyed by snicket's blah blah no good endings i'm cracking！ i've cracked！ it's time to read all the classic series i never read as a child because i thought i was different or something！ what was wrong with six year old me！3。5/5 starsi can see how this book would've really appealed to me as a younger child - it gives pseudonymous bosch vibes and i went HARD for the secret series （still do）but you know reading it now makes me realize how short/simple the story is and also makes me a little more annoyed by snicket's blah blah no good endings here attitudebut the children are fun and the alliteration is fun and the big words are funonwards to the next！ 。。。more

The way the author wrote this book was amazing thier books very have a good ending and is so unexpected。 Count Olaf and the orphans have an amazing character arc。 The climax was definitely the best part and the best written。 This book was very memorable。 I feel they could have made the book cover more attractive so more people would know about these books。 But it is still great。 I would rate it a five out of five because of how well written it is。

This was the series that started my love of reading when I was 10 years old， so of course I had to give it 5 stars。 This is my first re-read of the series。 Daniel Handler （a。k。a Lemony Snicket） is one of the best writers I have ever read。 He created a writing style that is so unique and engrossing that it still interests and entertains me 12 years later as an adult。
